Updated digipak 2

Updated digipak 2

This is my updated digipak with the added binder and my updated poster.

Binder

The binder for my digipak, I made it grey to match with the front and back cover and added the coloured triangles to again match with the rest of the digipak and to add a contrast with the monochrome colours.

Updated Digipak

After getting feedback from my last digipak I realised that some of my digipak panels needed more manipulation therefore I changed the top right panel of 3 overlapped lips as it was two similar to the left hand side. I changed the slide tho a new one that has rows of lips as I still wanted to include them in my digipak and I wanted the inside to all link in with the glow in dark sections of our video and contrast with the outside of the digipak like with the city filming in our video.

Final Shot List

Final Shot List

By writing a list of all of our shots we have used in our video, it allowed me to see what variety of shots I had used and if there were any different angles or shots needed to add more diversity to the video. Furthermore, it also allowed me to see how many different shots we had whether I felt that correlated with the length and tempo of the song or whether I felt we needed to add more to our video.

Updated chorus with flare

This is our updated chorus where we have now filled the blank spaces we had previously left with the shots of our actress Lucy dancing with the red flare. We chose Lucy to dance with the red flare as she was wearing a red t shirt in the video, we thought it created a good effect when the flares matched the colure of the people dancing in them/holding them's t-shirts. We felt that interchanging between the different bright coloured flares would help build on the idea of colour and make our video look better overall. Furthermore, we felt adding more of the fare shots would add interest for the demographic as it's a change from shots of people dancing in their t shirts.

Amplification editing

We used the idea of Goodwin's theory of amplification by editing an extreme close up of our actor Jack's eyes opening one the lyrics "Can't take my eyes up of it". Furthermore, we thought to broke up a longer shot of Jack walking and lip syncing as it would be boring for demographics to watch and by adding a shot in-between it breaks it up and also keeps to the fast paced editing of the rest of the video and edits on the beat.

This is the updated version of our video up until the second verse, we have now filmed the red flare with our actress Lucy and therefore we were able to fill in the blank gaps we had previously in the video. This has made our video look more complete and has helped us to move on with the final parts of the editing.

Edit Diary 10

After getting feedback from our video, we were advised to try adding some slow motion shots to our video to contrast the fast paced editing and quick cuts with the slow motion shots. We chose to slow down the flare shots as we thought it would look cool have the smoke floating past the camera in slow motion and create a good effect that will add interest as it would differ from the rest of our video.

Firstly, I went to the tool bar along the top and clicked on the timer

I then clicked on the speed list and selected slow to create the slow motion effect

Once I selected the slow option this appeared on the video and it was in slow motion

Finally, I then looked at the different percentage options and played around with the different speeds to see with ones I think works best with the rest of my video.

Dance Grid Edit

We played around with some different editing techniques to try and add some variation to our video and make it more interesting for demographics to watch rather than repeating lots of the same dancing shots. We thought it would be best on the last 'Dance, Dance, Dance' of the chorus as it would add a better effect and more of a climax to the end of the chorus. Moreover, we felt it also added conclusion to the chorus as we have separate shots of different people dancing and then this grid edit brings it them all together at the end of the chorus.

This is our first edit if the second verse the song where have added our third colure change of the video however we still have some blank spaces in the video where we are planning to film our red flare shots with one of our actresses. We had previously planned to film but the weather was very windy and we learnt from our previous attempt with our actor Jack that the flare wouldn't work in these weather conditions therefore we have had to postpone filming until a later date but were are trying to film as soon as possible so that we can add the shots in and make our video feel more complete.

CHORUS SPINNING

To make the reverse spinning in the 'Dance,Dance,Dance' lyrics in the chorus of the video we used three different video's of our actress Imogen and reversed the one in the middle to create a different effect and add interest to our video as it's different to the other editing techniques we have included and give the video more variation from normal dancing shots.

Firstly, I added the video's I wanted then I selected the timer tool on the tool bar across the top

I then ticked the reverse box to make the video go backwards and create the effect I wanted

This icon then appeared on the selected video and I cropped it down to the size I wanted it to be to fit on the beats on the song

Edit Diary 3

This is our first updated edit with the first colour change edited into the first verse. We filmed with our actor 'Lucy' by the M-shed in Bristol, we did a few tales to make sure that they would line up better when editing. Additionally, we also added in a feller shot of Lucy dancing to break up the lip syncing more to make our video more interesting for demographics to watch. We edited the shot of Jack walking with a match on action close up of his feet walking to add a wider range of angles to ur video and to make the scene more interesting.

Edit Diary 2

After reviewing the feedback from our previous edit we decided to go back through all of our footage and edit the video as far as we could and added black spaces for parts we are still yet to film. The black spaces will mainly be filled with colure changes to further explain the narrative and more fillers of different people dancing. There are also lots of blanks at the end of the song however we have planned to use the coloured powder paint towards the end of the video and we are in process of filming and editing the footage. We felt that adding the blank spaces would help us to see what footage we have and what we still need and we have a made a list of all the locations and shots we want to film and referred back our original storyboards and made an updated storyboard with each of the gaps planned and filled ready to film.

Match On Action

Match On Action

This is an example of the technique match on action that we have used in our video, we also tried to make this shot line p with the lyrics 'feet' and our actors feet hit the ground to use as amplification and draw the audiences attention.

Our Feedback

FEEDBACK:

The main feedback we've received about our video is:

- To include more angles (e.g. close ups, long shots, side views)
we need to avoid using so many front on shots of our actor and so many mid shots, our advice was to try and move him around the screen and to try and get shots without the actor looking directly at the camera which will vary our shots more making our video more interesting.

- To make sure our actor is comfortable
we also need to ensure that our actor feels comfortable when preforming so that there are no parts in the video where they look awkward and this will also help to accentuate the lip syncing making it seem more realistic

- To make the narrative more clear
Finally, another comment was that the narrative need to be more obvious to the audience so that our video makes sense - to ensure that this happens we were told to make sure we have a solid story board to reflect back on so that we don't lose sigh of where we want the video to go

Comments:
From watching my video back and listening to the feedback I've received I can see there are a few changes that need to be made to improve my video. For example, we have noticed that because of having such a past paced video we could include more shots in places as the editing has to reflect the pace of the song for it too look good. Furthermore, we are aware that quite a few mid shots have been used therefore we are aiming to re film some lip-syncing parts of the video to try and include a wider range of angles which will make our video more interesting. After editing I also noticed that one part of the lip syncing isn't lined up as the actor is singing the line of the bridge from the second verse which is slightly different from the first verse. E.g. In the first verse the lyrics are 'We're flying up, no ceiling, when we're in our zone' and in verse two the line is 'I fly so high, no ceiling, when I'm in my zone' I didn't notice that he was singing the line from then second verse until I watched the video back and saw that the lip syncing didn't quite fit therefore I will have to replace that shot with a different one. During our feedback from our video we were also told to consider cutting some of our shots to half the length and adding another one in to create more pace. There are also a few filler shots that I am hoping to change when I look back on my footage again as I feel some of them don't work as well as others. Finally, a comment from Mr Howell was that he really liked the lip effect but he felt that because it was bold and interesting it should lead onto something and build to a climax and a bold interesting shot to avoid it becoming a bit of an anti climax and the audience losing interest. I thought this was a really interesting comment have been trying to think of a shot that can go after the lips as a I agree that it would add more to our video.

However, the positives from our video were that lots of people commented on the lip effect we created as they thought it looked good and fit well with our theme, they also liked it as it made the video more interesting because it was different to our other shots and editing. Another comment was made on the t shirt change as they thought that was interesting and that it added more of a narrative to our video and we were encouraged to add more which we are hoping to do when filming.

Artist logo Idea

Artist Logo

The logo is the artists initials in a font that is kind of messy to reflect the upbeat song and the artist's style and also signify to consumers who the artist is and identify with them.

Failed Flare

Failed Flare Shoot:

Today we had planned to film our second yellow flare with our main actor Jack, however when we started to film and set the flare off the weather was so windy that it was blowing all the smoke away making it impossible for us to film and get footage of lip-syncing in the smoke. We hadn't considered the wind as a factor in our filming which has showed us that we will need to ensure we take all factors into account when planning to film with our other two flares so that we don't waste another flare and make sure we get some footage.

Task 22: Digipak poster

Digipak poster edit one:

Digipak Photoshoot

Digipak Photoshoot

To do this shoot we used the photography studio and set up the lights to make the pictures look more professional we then also added the coloured gels over the lights to create different effects. First, we tried using the yellow gel however we felt that this didn't create a very strong colour and isn't very noticeable in our photo's. We also added a pink/red gel with created a much stronger effect, we took lots of photo's of Jack in different poses to use for our digipak. I wanted to get Jack giving off a laid-back/happy kind of vibe so we used a chair as a prop and tried to get him leaning back and sitting in different ways. I tried to take lots of photo's to have the most options to work with on the digipak and poster.

Label One

Class visit

In our lesson today two people from the company label one came to talk to our class about the BBC documentary they are shooting at our school. They told us about what to expect to do on an average day in there job and how they got into the media industry and the positions they are in now. They explained how they would both film over a long period of time using only one Sony camera to get all the shots/angles and footage they would need to create the documentary. I found this particularly interesting as I had always thought more cameras would have been needed however they explained how they would have to be constantly thinking about varying sth types and adding angles whilst also keeping a focus on the key information they wanted to convey in the scene. For example they explained that if they were filming a someone giving a talk they would make that key person their primary subject however would also be moving the camera to capture the expression of people watching/listening to break up the long shot of talking -- They said a good way to make the scene interesting with making it disjointed is the use of cutaways to people listening as you can still hear the key information but avoid have one long shot of someone speaking which would be boring for the demographic. This information made me consider my own music video as it reminded me of the importance to avoid long shots and to try and include a wide range of angles to make the video more entering and look more professional.

Furthermore, they also bought in their equipment that have been using to him the documentary and explained what each piece did and how it was operated. Firstly they spoke about the camera - they use a Sony FS7 mark 1 that had a canon sense, they showed us how lens worked and how to detach the camera from the tripod. Compared to the SLR camera's I have used at school their professional camera seemed huge and was heavy to hold however the lady explained that although the camera was much bigger and had more settings the actual canon lens was the same as the SLR camera's we have been using in class which I thought was interesting as I would have thought they would be completely different. Additionally, They showed us the large over head microphone they use and the headset which allows you to listen to what the microphone can hear. I saw how to hold the microphone and roughly how far it would be away from the people its recording - To film they had one person holding the camera filming the scene and the other would stand near by and hold the microphone over head to record it.

Finally, they also went onto explain that after filming they would be joined by an editor who would sit with them and go through all of the footage and would spend a few months editing together all the footage to create the documentary -- This made me reflect on how long the editing of my video may take and highlight the importance of get as much footage as I can so I can ensure I pick the very best bits and also make sure I leave enough time to edit my video well and look through all the footage I have filmed.

Flare Practice

Flare Practice:

This was our first practice using the flares that we bought for our video, we chose to use the yellow flare as we had two of them so if our trial went wrong we still had a back up yellow flare to use with in our video. From doing this trial we found out how to use the flare correctly and exactly what to expect when filming our video. Additionally, we discovered that the flare lasts approximately 90 seconds we will know what time frame we have to work in when we film with the other 3 flares. From doing this test shoot we noticed that we need to use lots of different angles and include more cool ups of the actors more in the middle of the coloured smoke to get the best affects when filming. In addition we were also able to test the location, overall I think the location worked well because it was very empty meaning that we didn't have any issues with people walking in the background of our video. I really like the effect of the using the coloured flare in the video and feel it will fit well with our video narrative of spreading colour around and having people dance in the bright colours will work well with the songs upbeat tempo.

To do List

What we need to do:

I decided to make a list of the final things we need to complete for our video and for my blog so that I could organise my time to ensure I finished all the things I needed to.

Pop World Photoshoot

Photoshoot

I particularly liked the colourful background of this shoot as I feel it fits well with our theme of colour and narrative of spreading colour and happiness. However, I felt the lighting presented some issues as it made our artist Jack very dark meaning his expressions here hidden and you were unable to see his face or costume therefore I feel this photoshoot was overall unsuccessful as I will be unable to use the photos to create my digipak as they are too dark and the purpose of a digipalk is to brand and show case the artists latest album. Conversely, these photo's hide the artists identity and therefore achieve the opposite effect.

Pop World Permission

CLUB PERMISSION

We emailed a club in Bristol called pop world for permission to film our video there as it is known for having a colourful pop art theme which we thought could fit well with out "Under the lights" bridge and the glow in the dark theme we had. We were told they had colourful strobe lights which we were able to use and a big LED screen which could change colours and patterns in the background, we thought both of these would look really good in our video and make our video more interesting for the demographic to watch as we would be able to create more professional affects as we would have access to more facilities.
